Two Weeks to Go…
If you just registered or didn’t receive my first message, welcome to News, Narrative & Design 1! (The roster is still in flux, and I think I’ve kept up, but feel free to unsubscribe if you registered for NND1 but changed your schedule.)
I’m writing again to share some late-summer reading. Here are three recent articles by journalists about their own experiences:
Nikita Telizhenko, a correspondent for the Russian website Znak, describes his brutal treatment by Belarusian special forces while covering that country’s protests.
Producer Ariana Pekary writes about leaving MSNBC because its focus on ratings “forces skilled journalists to make bad decisions.”
And Los Angeles Times columnist Esmeralda Bermudez recounts her immigrant mother’s pride in her daughter’s professional success.
We will hold our first meeting in two weeks, and I’ll send a Google Calendar invitation with a Zoom link soon.
If there’s something you’d like me to know before then — your time zone, access to technology, accommodations, or anything else — please send me a message or reply to this email. Or feel free to just say hello.
See you in two weeks!
